Two days around Prati and the Vatican: a flexible Rome itinerary

A Rome weekend works best with a few clear priorities. This suggested plan leaves room for timed visits, different walking speeds and rest. Swap the days if that better fits the tickets you can book.

Before travelling: choose your main visit

Decide whether the Vatican Museums, the Basilica or exploring the city will be the focus of your stay. Book the activities that require a place or a time slot and check the arrangements for your chosen day. This is a suggested itinerary, not a package with admission included.

Compare your Domus address with the first stop. Keep arrival day light: the journey, luggage collection and check-in may make a tightly scheduled afternoon unrealistic.

Day 1: your Vatican visit and a proper break

Keep the first part of the day for the main visit you have booked. Use the entrance shown on your ticket and plan any separate visit to St Peter’s accordingly. Afterwards, leave a flexible period for lunch and rest rather than immediately starting another timed activity.

In the afternoon, choose between returning to the apartment and continuing with a walk. For a family, the kitchen and a quiet break may be more useful than another stop. Choose dinner around where you finish the day rather than making a long journey just to follow a list.

Day 2: Prati and the Tiber

You could build a walk around Via Cola di Rienzo and Piazza Cavour, then consider continuing towards the Tiber and the Castel Sant’Angelo area. Choose the direction based on your apartment and your final destination. Check admission and opening arrangements separately if you want to enter a monument.

You do not need to complete every stop. Leave time for a break or to return to a favourite place. Before setting off for home, allow for collecting luggage and travelling to the station or airport.

Adapt the plan to your apartment

Aurelia has two bedrooms and two bathrooms, while Adriana and Giulia each have one bedroom and one bathroom. Use your apartment page to compare the layout and check routes. In wet weather, consider an indoor visit that fits current ticket availability rather than crossing the whole city between activities.

A good plan leaves room for changes. Confirm the practical arrangements of your stay with the host and use the attractions’ official channels for the latest visitor information.
